OUR HISTORY

timeline_pre_loader

1975 - Started in Garage

For several years Alan (founder) was doing cabinetmaking of all types part time, but it became time to let go of the weekly pay packet and plunge into full time cabinetmaking with only very basic equipment, bench planer, radial saw saw etc. which was done in the garage.

1978-1998 First-showroom in double garage

Moved to acreage and built our home with a much larger garage to work in. Our 1st showroom was one side of this area and then extended into Alan’s model train room sharing office space (decades later he has a real model train room!)

1978-1998 First Workshop

Out-grew the garage so built a workshop at the rear. After extending firstly one end, then the other, adding 2 site sheds – one as a spray room where Glenys lacquered timber doors and later we were early movers of 2 pack lacquering. Relax – the spray painter who does our work now is Brisbane’s best!

1989 Inside first workshop

Inside first workshop. Son Greg (now Manager) started his apprenticeship straight from school as did Richard (now Assistant Manager) a couple of years later.

1998-2006 Second Workshop

Sold the acreage and Alan (with Commercial Licence) built a duplex industrial building to house the growing business. We occupied one side. When the tenant left, we expanded into the second side. We added Kit Kitchens to our brand so clients could have a genuine bespoke kitchen that they could assemble and install themselves. We have shipped kitchens to Korea, Russia, Greece, Seychelles, Narau, New Guinea, Norfolk and Vanuatu as well as local and interstate.

2005-Jan Morbidelli Arrival

As we grew so did the machinery and we upgraded from a small CNC machine which had revolutionised our business, to a large CNC machine (Morbidelli). This was another big step and revolutionised our manufacturing even more.

2006-Oct New Building

By an incredible miracle and against all odds, we were able to attain our current building. Wow! As Dale our workshop foreman’s wife said as she looked over the factory ‘ now this is a proper business”. Finally … a lovely large showroom and much bigger factory, we were now set up as we had scarcely dared to believe! Our ‘cabbies’ had space to set out whole kitchens at once and we had a proper spray booth for the guys. Much of the building had to be gutted and renovated prior to moving in and Dale and the cabinetmakers were just amazing as they took on to do this in their own time! What a team!

2016 Anderson Arrival

Steady growth has continued and we have celebrated 10 years in our new building. In 2016 we upgraded our CNC just before it ‘gave up the ghost’! So have an Anderson CNC plus a small machine so we can fabricate simple stone tops – saves our clients $ and saves a long wait with a stone mason.

2017

Alan and Glenys are retired but are still keenly involved. All is well with Greg’s wise guidance under a heavy load, (it just ain’t easy) together with an absolutely awesome team of production managers, cabinetmakers and sales/designers
Kitchen Gallery and Kit Kitchens is in excellent hands!
