History

Our story, starting in 1975, out of a garage.
1975

Humble beginnings

For several years, our founder Alan was manufacturing joinery of all types part-time in the garage at home. It soon became more than a part-time job, and it was time to let go of the weekly pay packet and plunge into his own full time cabinetmaking business. With only very basic equipment, a bench planer, radial saw and hand tools, KITCHEN GALLERY began.

1975
1978

First showroom

Moving to acreage, a new home was built with a much larger garage to work in. Our first showroom was one side of the garage area and the office was a spare room in the house.

1978
1980

First workshop

It wasn’t long before KITCHEN GALLERY outgrew the garage and two sheds behind the house were built. Utilizing one shed as a spray booth, Alans’ wife Glenys lacquered timber doors and later KITCHEN GALLERY became one of the early pioneers of 2pac lacquering.

1980
1989

Inside the first workshop

Inside the first workshop, Alan’s son Greg (now Manager) started his apprenticeship straight from school, as did Richard (now Assistant Manager) a couple of years later.

1989
1998

Second workshop

The acreage property was sold and Alan (with a commercial building license) built a duplex industrial building to house the growing business. KITCHEN GALLERY occupied one side, with a tenant in the other. When that tenant left, KITCHEN GALLERY expanded into the second side.

KITKITCHENS was added to the KITCHEN GALLERY brand, so clients could have a genuine bespoke kitchen that they could assemble and install themselves.

To date KITKITCHENS has shipped cabinetry to South Korea, Greece, Seychelles, Nauru, New Guinea, Norfolk and Vanuatu, and of course locally and interstate.

1998
2005

Morbidelli arrival

As KITCHEN GALLERY grew, so did the machinery.  We upgraded from a small CNC (computer controlled drilling and routing) machine which had revolutionised the business, to a larger CNC machine (Morbidelli). This was another big step which revolutionised our manufacturing.

2005
2006

New building

By an incredible miracle and against all odds, Alan & Glenys were able to attain the current building. Requiring a lot of work and renovation before we could move in, the team of cabinetmakers, along with our foreman Dale, helped demolish internal walls and set up the new showroom and workshop in their own time.

Finally, a lovely large showroom and much bigger factory, we now had a facility that we had scarcely dared to believe and were extremely proud of. Our ‘cabbies’ had space to properly set out whole kitchens at once, and we had a mezzanine area for the spray booth.

2006
2016

Anderson arrival

Steady growth has continued, and we have celebrated 10 years in our new building. In 2016, we upgraded our CNC just before the old one ‘gave up the ghost’! We purchased an Anderson CNC, further automating machining and adding efficiencies.

2016
2017

Retirement

Alan and Glenys retired but are still keenly involved. KITCHEN GALLERY continues under the management of their son Greg, with an incredible team of Production Managers, Cabinetmakers and Joinery Designers.

2017
2018

Building Extention

Work begins to extend the factory area. As the business continues to grow, more floor space is needed to allow us to continue operating with our method of constructing each kitchen in our workshop and giving our cabinetmakers space to individually be responsible for the project that they work on.

New look, new website

Busier than ever, the future is bright for KIT KITCHENS. We embrace technology and the evolving market to make the process easier than ever, with increased focus on our website & branding to guide a new generation of customers on their kitchen building journey to make the process as easy as possible.
